IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING EDEN TOWN & COUNTY TAX BILLS
The United States Postal Service updated its explanation on how their postmark process works. As of December 2025, it clarifies that a postmark now revolves around when a piece of mail gets to a regional processing hub. Rather than when it gets to a local postal office potentially causing a 1–3-day delay before the official postmark date, impacting deadlines for taxes, bills and ballots.
To ensure timely payment and avoid penalties that the Town cannot legally waive, taxpayers should:
- Pay in person at the Town Clerk’s Office
- Use the drop box outside the entrance to Town Hall (do NOT wait until after the office is closed on the last date of collection)
- Make your payment online at Town of Eden online tax payment & search system. (fees apply)
- Request hand cancellation at a USPS retail counter when mailing payments near deadline
The back of the tax bill states we discourage the use of online banking for tax payments because the bank cannot guarantee your payment will be delivered to our office by the due date. If you utilize online banking, you do so at your own risk. Please be aware that online banking checks are mailed to the Town from a payment processing center by bulk mail, therefore there is NO postmark on the envelope. US Postmark is REQUIRED as proof of payment date.
Payments are accepted at the Eden Town Clerk’s office at 2795 E Church St, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8AM to 4PM, and Wednesday 8AM to 12PM and 4PM to 6PM. Note the office will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The due date for 2026 Town and County taxes is Monday, March 16th to avoid late fees.
