Regular Garbage Service this Week

Update: Today’s Recycling only (12-27) will NOT be picked up. It will be picked up next Tuesday.

Storm update 12-26

Eden’s travel ban is lifted and moved to a travel advisory. Hamburg and Evans remain in travel bans and we ask that you do not travel there so their highway crews can continue clearing roads. The 219 and 90 remain close at this time.

Storm Update 12-25

Merry Christmas.

The storm has moved into our area as predicted. Due to the severity of the snow and damage to other areas of the county, the driving ban remains in effects. We are hoping to lift it later this evening or tomorrow morning.

Please stay home and enjoy your day.

Storm Update

Even though the weather seems calm now, we are still in a driving ban. Weather conditions are expected to change. Please stay home and off the roads. Thank you for your cooperation and helping to keep our emergency services and residents safe.

Driving Ban

We have had several calls for cars in ditches and accidents. Please stay off the roads. We are in a driving ban. No one should be on the roads except emergency personnel. Those not abiding by the ban are keeping our emergency services from getting to emergencies and putting them in danger. Again, please stay off the roads until further notice.

Storm Update

Currently we are under a blizzard warning through Sunday, December 25th at 7:00am. A driving ban for all of Erie County will begin at 9:30am. Only emergency personnel will be allowed on the roads. As of now, the garbage trucks are still picking up the routes.  Please get your totes in as soon as they come by. Power outages will be widespread and restoration may take much longer than normal because this is a regional storm. If a warming shelter is needed, we will open one. Please check our town social media pages for important updates. Anyone in need of help, please call the town hall at 716-992-3408, ext. 1. We are asking everyone to stay home and safe. Please check on your neighbors, especially our seniors who may need additional help. Please keep our emergency services in your thoughts. Thank you, stay safe and Merry Christmas.

Erie County Public Forums for Needs/ Priorities of Low-income Residents

The Erie County Department of Environment & Planning has announced upcoming citizen forums to help determine the needs and priorities of low- and moderate-income residents residing within the Erie County Community Development (“CD”) Block Grant Consortium. The consortium is comprised of 34 municipalities, excluding the City of Buffalo, the Towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Hamburg and Tonawanda and their Villages; these municipalities receive their own federal funding. The information gathered at the forums will assist the County’s Department of Environment and Planning in preparing the 2022 Community Development application to the US Department of Housing & Urban Development.

The 3 public forums are scheduled for:

•          Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00 PM at the City of Tonawanda, Court Room, 200 Niagara Street

•          Wednesday, September 15 at 6:30 PM at the Lackawanna Public Library, 560 Ridge Road

•          Thursday, September 16 at 7:00 PM at the Village of Springville Public Safety Campus, 65 Franklin Street

“By participating in these public forums residents are able to advocate for what is important to them, add their own voice to the community discussion, and let officials know what they value right in their own neighborhoods,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “Citizen input can impact how our communities look and function for years to come so it is important that we hear from as many people as possible, and I encourage residents to attend and make their voices and concerns heard.”

These public forums provide an opportunity to increase citizen awareness and participation in the Consortium’s federal Community Development program by allowing the general public, as well as agency advocates for low- and moderate-income individuals, the elderly and handicapped to offer suggestions and information on the needs of these populations to County and municipal officials. Housing needs, such as affordable housing and housing for special populations (the homeless, the elderly, disabled persons, persons living with AIDS, and public housing residents), and community and economic development needs, such as transportation, jobs, community facilities and infrastructure (sewer, water and roads), will be prime topics for discussion at the forums.

These forums will also serve as countywide public meetings for Erie County’s Community Development Block Grant, Emergency Solutions Grant and HOME Investment Partnership programs.  Each will cover four areas: Housing, Public/Human Services, Community/Neighborhood Development, and Economic Development Needs. There will also be a review of CD Program Performance, as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Information obtained from the meetings will be used to formulate the Erie County Consortium’s Community Development 2022 Action Plan.  The update process will occur in early 2022.
