COVID – 19 Update    April 16, 2020

(From Supervisor Hartman)

Good evening, I am calling to provide an update on the COVID-19 pandemic.  First let me start by saying how proud I am of our Eden residents.  By staying home and practicing social distancing, we are saving lives and doing our part to help flatten the curve. I recognize how difficult this is and ask for your continued patience during the next few weeks as our state leaders figure out a plan to re-open.  On Tuesday, April 14th, the Governor’s orders requiring that essential businesses provide facial masks or coverings for employees working directly with the public went into effect.  Starting tomorrow, April 17,th the Governor is ordering any New York State resident to wear a face mask or covering in public settings where it is physically impossible to practice proper social distancing.  This would include, but not limited to grocery stores and pharmacies.  Today, the Governor also extended the New York Pause order until May 15th.  As the weather improves during this extension, residents might be more tempted to gather.  We are asking you to follow these orders for the protection of every Eden resident. Also, the Town of Eden has extended the Local State of Emergency until May 15th. As always, if you need something, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Town at 716-992-3408.  I hope all of you are well.  Please take care of yourselves. Thank you and have a good night.

April 6, 2020 – COVID -19 Update

COVID – 19 Update

Good evening, I wanted to provide an update from the Town of Eden regarding the COVID -19 pandemic.  The NYS Governor has extended his stay-at-home order to April 29th.  We are asking all residents to stay at home, unless you are an essential employee. Over the next several weeks, we ask residents to only make trips outside the home which are absolutely necessary, such as to grocery stores and pharmacies.  Please only send one person and leave children at home whenever possible.  We will begin the next round of calling our senior and at need residents this week.  In the meantime, if you need something, please call the town hall at 716-992-3408. Local municipalities have been asked to strictly enforce the no gathering orders.  This is intended for both residents and businesses. In light of the upcoming religious holidays, we are urging you to reconsider large family gatherings. Until further notice, all playgrounds in the Town of Eden are closed. We are also strictly enforcing the no non-essential construction order. Any construction that is not deemed essential or necessary to protect the health and safety of Eden residents needs to stop immediately.  In accordance to the CDC’s most recent recommendations, we are asking that all residents wear a non-surgical face mask when in public.  There are several ways to make your own, including wearing a handkerchief or scarf.  I recognize that this is a very stressful and uncertain time. Your understanding and patience is appreciated.  These measures are making a difference and will continue to save lives.  I also would like to thank our emergency responders, healthcare, grocery store, and pharmacy workers, along with all essential employees risking their lives to help others. Please take care of yourselves.  We will get through this together.

CDC recommends wearing a face mask in public

The CDC is now recommending that you wear a face mask when out in public. The Town of Eden is asking anyone with the ability to make masks and are willing to sell/donate to our residents to please send their contact information to Marlene at and we will post this on our website and Facebook pages.

Thank you!

Important Message from the Supervisor

Good evening, this is Melissa Hartman, Eden Town Supervisor. Governor Cuomo has issued an executive order beginning Sunday, March 22 at 8pm, for New York State residents to stay at home. This includes 100% of the workforce, unless you are deemed an essential employee. Essential businesses include grocery stores, food distributors, pharmacies, healthcare workers and medical suppliers. A more extensive list can be found at  We ask that our residents adhere to these orders to protect essential workers and first responders.  You will be able to leave your homes for food, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, pet supplies, or take to care of family members who are unable to care for themselves.  You are free to go outside, take a walk, or play with your children.  But we ask that you maintain a safe distance from anyone outside of your immediate family.

These are extraordinary times for the Town of Eden, New York State, the United States of America, and the entire world.  Because of this, we need to take extraordinary measures.  Uncertainty can cause confusion and panic.  We want you to know that our Town will persevere.  We will work together to ensure the well-being of our friends and neighbors.  Our amazing network of first responders and emergency services has been working hard over the last few weeks in preparation.

Additionally, we are asking everyone to take the time to check on your neighbors, especially seniors.  If any resident needs food or pharmaceuticals and can’t leave home, or if you are an essential employee and in need of childcare, please call us at 716-992-3408 for assistance.  If you suspect that you have COVID – 19 (coronavirus), please call your doctor.  If you require emergency assistance, please call 911.

Unfortunately, I do not have any information regarding the duration of this order.  I ask that we do our part to follow the guidelines provided and stay in our homes. For updates, please refer to our town website and Facebook pages.  If there is an urgent matter, we will continue to utilize the code red system.  Please take care of yourselves.
