Eden was named a recipient of the New York State Main Street Grant for $300,000.  This grant will assist local businesses to revitalize/enhance their building.  It is a 50/50 match grant so there is a potential to bring $600,000 of improvements to Eden’s hamlet business community. Grant administration will begin in early 2019. Businesses that are eligible for the funding will be contacted by the Town. In addition to the NYS Main Street grant, Eden was also awarded a NYS Parks Grant in the amount of $20,000. The Town of Eden will develop a feasibility study for the preservation and adaptive reuse of Croop’s Mill on Bley Road along Eighteen Mile Creek. The study aims to identify necessary measures to stabilize the structures, capitalize on its heritage, develop means for access to the Creek, expand economic opportunities through recreation and tourism, and provide an educational connection to agriculture.

Take a minute: tell us what you think

In Cultivate Eden, the Town’s Comprehensive Plan update, the residents brought up the idea of a community center for the Town.  Subsequently, we were awarded a grant to find out how desirable and feasible something like this could be in our community.  We invite you to take a quick survey so we can find out more as we continue to study the idea.  Thank you!  We do have printed copies available in the Town Clerk’s office in the Town Hall.

The Town of Eden Receives State and National Recognition as a Safe Town

On April 16, 2018, the Safewise Report, an independent review site, released the “100 Safest Cities in America” naming Eden, New York the twenty third safest town in America. The report uses recent FBI crime data to calculate the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in cities and towns reporting very low or no violent crimes (e.g., aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery).

In addition to this national ranking, the Town of Eden was named the fifth safest town in New York State by Elite Personal Finance, a financial review company that conducts independent reviews. As with Safewise, Elite uses FBI crime data to determine crime rates within each town in New York State. Eden reported zero violent crimes in 2016, and therefore had a crime score of 0.00 for the 2017 and 2018 reports.

Eden, New York is considered a small rural/suburban town with a population of 7,670. Eden is located approximately 18 miles south of Buffalo, New York. On May 9, 2018, the Eden Town Board will recognize the Eden Police Department for their outstanding dedication to the safety of the Town of Eden. The presentation will be held at 7:00 p.m. during the regular town board meeting at the Eden Town Hall.
